Wedding insurance and photography: make the memory last
In terms of bang for the buck, weddings are way up there.
Sure, the planning and organisation can take some time. And mothers-in-law can have a penchant for being particularly robust as you get into the final weeks before the big day!
Though nobody does a wedding for the planning.
No, you first do it for the big day itself.
You’ll look a million bucks. The sun will be out. Your childhood friends are watching you walk down the aisle, green with envy.
The Champagne will flow, and everyone will chat and laugh as the afternoon continues. There will be great food, dancing, and wild promises to be broken the next day.
Even the shuttle from the winery back into town as everyone sings Elton John’s ‘I’m Still Standing’ at the top of their voice.
Nobody doesn’t look forward to a wedding and the magic of the night.
Because you don’t need the fun and festival to become legally married. But where is the fun in that?
A wedding is the peak of celebrations as you kick off the rest of your life.
And that is why we say, bang for the buck, weddings are worth every cent.
Because it’s not just the night itself but also the memories.
The next day, everyone will be talking about your big night.
It could be at the recovery breakfast over mimosas.
Stories are shared and laughed about: the priest that went off-script, the best man’s hilarious speech, the first dance, your aunt from New York making a surprise appearance.
Memories. Just great memories.
Years later, people can still point to your big day and night and recall just how much fun was had by all.
With a wedding, you get the night of your dreams and a night you won’t forget.
Wedding photography and wedding videography: even better than the memories
When we talk to our customers, they all pretty much agree that the critical elements of a wedding – other than the couple themselves – are:
- A celebrant or someone that can officiate the wedding.
- A venue, whether it’s a backyard or a restaurant overlooking Sydney Harbour.
- A wedding photographer.
Capturing the big day (and night) in stills and on video is at the top of our customers’ minds.
Especially the ceremony and the photos afterwards while your guests guzzle the Champagne and prepare for the night.
Because whilst memories fade, of course, photos are much less prone to that today.
Wedding supplier failure: wedding photographers
We’ve written extensively about wedding supplier failure, one of the most common wedding insurance claims.
The biggest hit is a wedding venue tanking and taking your deposits with them. From there, it is a long list of suppliers: caterers, photographers, transport, entertainment, etc.
Thankfully, the deposit you’ll likely pay for a wedding photographer is not excessive. However, they’re not nothing, especially when you might have two photographers and a videographer for the afternoon and evening.
If your wedding photographer fails, wedding insurance will cover your losses (to the extent of the policy), so you’re not out of pocket.
Which is peace of mind when you’re scrambling to find a replacement.
Wedding photography and wedding videography: after the wedding
There are two reasons you might need wedding photography after your wedding:
- Your wedding photographer does not show up on the day.
- Your wedding photographer’s photos are unacceptable to you.
Unfortunately, wedding insurance does not cover either of these scenarios except to cover the costs (to the extent of the policy) in the event of a wedding photographer’s no-show.
If your wedding photographer’s photos are unacceptable to you, that is something to discuss and negotiate with them directly.
To this extent, if you have specific wedding photo or video requirements you want met on the big day; we recommend putting these in writing.
When to take out wedding insurance for wedding photography and wedding videography
We always recommend taking out wedding insurance from the outset: as soon as you are ready to start entering into contracts and paying deposits, take out wedding insurance.
It is inexpensive at Wedsure, starting from only $235 inc. GST and without any excess.
And if you have left things late, you can take out wedding insurance with Wedsure up to 30-days before you tie the knot.
