Questions People Ask Us About Wedding Insurance
Cold feet or changed your mind? Please, have a seat.
As a wedding insurer, we attend and present at wedding expos all around Australia.
We love attending wedding expos because we can have honest conversations with real couples on their journey to tying the knot.
Couples who are excited and there for new ideas.
Couples who have come to learn about different wedding venue options.
Couples who have come to learn about wedding transport options and ideas.
Couples who are ready to spend big on their special day.
Couples who probably didn’t come to a wedding expo to buy wedding insurance.
This is why we get asked so often what our wedding insurance policies cover
In almost all couples we meet at wedding expos, we see the same thing:
It starts with, ‘Wow, is wedding insurance a thing? We had no idea.’
Then, it moves on to ‘How is it a thing?’
Then, couples test the product and what is covered or not covered, which is a lot of fun.
‘What if a tropical storm forces us to postpone our wedding?’
Answer = Yes, you’re covered to the maximum of your policy.
‘What if the bus doesn’t show up and we must order 15 taxis?’
Answer = Yes, you’re covered to the maximum of your policy.
‘What if one of us has Covid and we must postpone?’
Answer = Yes, you’re covered to the maximum of your policy if you opted for optional Covid cover.
(And for $200 extra with any policy, we think taking out Covid cover for your wedding is simply something you should add.)
Tropical storms, smashed wine glasses, torn dresses, cancellations due to unforeseen events, bears, and even stolen presents. There is a good likelihood that a suitable wedding insurance policy will cover your wedding.
Of course, ensure you have read the PDS before selecting your policy to ensure you are covered for what is important to you.
And then the almost inevitable question we are always waiting for:
‘What if one or both of us get cold feet about the wedding?’
A change of mind. A decision to pull the plug. It just didn’t seem right.
The answer there – unfortunately – is no.
Our wedding insurance product does not cover change of mind.
What can I do if one or both of us changes our mind about getting married? Does wedding insurance cover that?
Talk to your wedding suppliers.
Explain the situation, and you might receive full or partial refunds. Check each supplier’s terms and conditions to understand their cooling-off periods and refund terms.
Things are trickier for dresses, suits and rings purchased and delivered.
Of course, there are avenues to recover some costs, such as selling or exchanging physical products.
You’re likely stuck with physical invitations. There is not much that can be done there.
What about cancellation, rescheduling or postponement that is out of our hands? Does wedding insurance help with that?
Your wedding policy will cover most of these instances, so you should consider wedding insurance for your big day.
Tropical storms. Covid.
You name it, without the aid of that crystal ball, none of us can truly predict the future of unforeseen events.
One or both couple members might change their minds and decide to cancel a wedding for many reasons.
It is never ideal. Thankfully, it is not particularly common.
It is important to know that such a decision is not covered and could be stressful and expensive.
As with all things insurance, knowing upfront rather than discovering that you are not covered at the other end is simply a better place to be.
