Does Wedding Insurance Cover My Honeymoon?
Ah, the honeymoon. A word that perfectly sums it up.
Your reward after months and maybe years of planning and stressing about your wedding, who to invite, and what colour the suits of the groomsmen should be.
This is your chance to relax, unwind, and recharge after an evening of speeches that might have made you wince once or twice.
We need quality time together, away from aunts and uncles and catering planners asking if you are okay substituting ocean trout for salmon.
It’s a time to celebrate. You’re married at last, and what a way to celebrate your new life together!
This is an opportunity to explore together and create lasting memories. It could be as far as the Sunset Bar at dusk or walking the back streets of Paris – it does not matter.
And of course – being adults here – intimacy. Building your connections in what is hopefully a romantic and private setting.
Honeymoons often make up half of the overall cost of the wedding/honeymoon cost.
They’re a big investment whether you as a couple footed all, some or none of the costs.
Hotels. Travel. Transfers.
And then there are the logistics. Baggage, check-in, customs, planning your thank you cards for when you get home.
Hopefully, your wedding was a huge success, and you’re ready for the trip of a lifetime.
(Hopefully your wedding was insured with wedding insurance just in case, though we can discuss that later!)
As wedding insurers, we love hearing about our customers’ honeymoon plans.
And boy, do they vary in scope, scale and grandeur.
Unfortunately, hearing of the plans is as far as wedding insurance travels.
Wedding insurance does not cover your honeymoon.
Why does wedding insurance not cover my honeymoon?
Weddings and honeymoons are very different things.
They are planned and coordinated by very different types of people with very little overlap.
The driver of your wedding car does not also drive airport shuttles.
The chef cooking your salmon on your big night does not also do a later night room service cheeseburger.
We specialise in insuring weddings.
We understand what can go wrong with a wedding, so we design our products to be as inclusive and beneficial as possible.
Our goal is to deliver surety on your big day and night.
Can I insure my honeymoon?
We mentioned the possible investment of a honeymoon relative to the wedding. And, of course, it could well be north of here.
A month in Europe does not come cheap, whoever fits the bill.
Our advice here is general, though taking out travel insurance before planning and booking your honeymoon is a sensible step.
Travel agents will likely have a preferred recommendation and supplier, and there are many excellent online providers you can also research.
As with all insurance products, research and understand the limitations of any policies you look at.
As a rule, avoid running with the bulls and riding scooters through Seminyak!
What if I am unable to make my honeymoon?
Travel insurance taken out with sufficient time should cover this eventuality.
Again, understand the policy and limitations and always have good documentation and receipts.
As much as we love writing wedding insurance policies and helping customers, we would prefer to have lunch in New York or lie by the pool in Fiji.
If you are planning an upcoming honeymoon, have a brilliant time.
And kick it off with a successful – insured – wedding!
